Autumn
Of all the Seasons, Autumn hues are easy to conjure up in our minds and the most 'stereotypical' of the Seasons - leaves turning red, orange and yellow, beautiful browns and olive greens - warmth and depth. Autumn is predominantly a warm parent Season but it more muted than it's counterpart, Spring.
Soft Autumn
Sand, mushroom, sage, salmon.
Soft Autumn the most muted of the Seasons (like it's adjacent soft summer), meaning it's not bright and has grey mixed in, like a gentle 'mist' overlaying the palette. Soft Autumn is calming, like a desert sunset. It's predominantly warm but influenced by Summer's coolness, containing some greys and cooler blues. It's a medium value (darkness) but has a range of dark to lights, to give versatility within the palette.
True Autumn
Caramel, olives, embers.
Purely warm, True Autumn is not influenced by Summer and only shares a darker value with Winter. Full of rich browns, golden yellow, softer peachy oranges, True Autumn is like sitting beside the hearth. True Autumn is medium value (not as dark as the adjacent Dark Autumn) and medium chroma (more saturated than it's counterpart, Soft Autumn).
Dark Autumn
Teal, Mahogany, brick red, deep purples.
Dark Autumn is the lowest 'value' of the Seasons (similar to adjacent Dark Winter), meaning it skews darker and has more black added to the palette. Unlike Winter, however, Autumn is a warm parent Season, although Dark Autumn is influenced by Winter's coolness. Dark Autumn is a medium-high chroma (brightness/saturation).
